Since more than 20 years the Arts & Craft House Gmünd, a building from the 17th century that was vacant for years, is available for artisans within the Artist in Residence Programme. It has developed to a popular venue for fans of upscale arts and craft.
The owner of the house, a member of the Cultural Initiative from the beginning, makes it possible for the artisans to live and work economical as possible here during summer. On the ground floor, there are three heatable workshops/studios in different sizes available, including a fully equipped pottery studio with a kiln. The Cultural Initiative supports the artists and bears all costs for the studio rooms. On the first floor, there are three simple standard garçonnières. The Arts & Craft House can only be used during summer months due to insufficient roof insulation which makes it impossible to heat the house in winter. The house owner thinks about renovating the house within an EU project and hence raising the quality standards of the apartments to allow all-year-round operation.
